STYLE GUIDE

WHAT TO WEAR

We have a light and airy photography style, and therefore we recommend wearing clothes to reflect this.

This makes sure we are letting you shine through. Ultimately we want to capture you, and what you’re comfortable with. So we are here every step of the way to make sure you get photos you will love.

Neutral / plain colours – To help give our airy feel, lighter, muted and pastel colours such as whites, beiges, light blues, yellows and pinks, light denims and khaki work best.

No strong patterns – This allows the focus to stay on you and your little ones faces.

Complimentary colours – We’re not talking matchy matchy, but picking 2-3 complimentary colours within your clothes will make for beautiful photos.

Dark colours – These will give a different look and feel to your photos, so if you really want to incorporate black, keep it to a minimum and to the bottom half of your outfit.

ACCESSORIES

SOCKS

It might seem like an obvious thing, but often our socks get no second thought. We often request that if one of you is wearing socks, all in the photoshoot wear socks, so just remember to have clean, hole-free and colours that match your outfit when choosing your foot hugging friends.

BRAS

If you’re lucky enough to not need one, great! For the rest of us, just make sure your outfit works around your bra strap being hidden and can’t be seen through – unless of course that is part of your look.

TAN LINES / FAKE TAN

Sunburn and awkward tan lines is often something that comes with the British Summer. So just make sure your outfit hides all sins.

We do love a tan, but we do ask you not to apply fake tan 2 days prior to your session. It can be over-powering if its not had time to settle and no one wants streaks visible (including those pesky knuckle areas on those closeup shots!).

WATCHES

If watches are not part of your outfit, please make sure they are taken off – ideal a few hours before your photosession to limit any watch marks on your skin.

PHONES

Please make sure to take phones out of your pockets to ensure clothes sit right, and make sure they are off/on silent so not to disturb the session.

GLASSES

If you wear transition or tinted glasses and we are doing an outdoor session, bear in mind these will show up in the photos if sunny. We will ask if you want to take them off for a few but understand glasses are apart of you. If you have a pair that just have normal lens (or no lens in them at all), we’d suggest bringing them along a well!

TEMPORARY TATTOOS

Just be mindful that the type of session you book with us, will decide if these are edited out. For example on our nursery and mini sessions where editing is minimal these can only be removed with an additional charge. So it’s best to leave the tattoos until after the photosession, or wear clothes that will cover.

NAIL VARNISH

Hands are just as important in photographs as the rest of us, so check for chips and that you are happy with the colour. And if you have them done professionally, make sure to get that pamper session in beforehand.

TIPS FOR YOUR SESSION

AT HOME

It may seem obvious, but the background is just as important as who is in the photo.

Your home is yours and part of the magic is capturing that if we are visiting you. Just be mindful that whatever is on show, will be captured. So it’s best to put anything you don’t want in the photos away.

We’re talking washing, garish toys, drink glasses and anything that may add unneccesary chaos and distractions to your photos.

OUTDOOR SESSIONS

For outdoor sessions, we know the great British weather likes to throw a lot at us, so come prepared.

If it’s quite cold, thick clothing will either be part of the photoshoot style. Or a trick is if you bring layers that can easily be taken off, then we can take a quick few snaps without jackets and coats.

EXTRAS

Comforters and favourite toys – we recommend bringing anything that can help make the difference of a content baby, to a giggling baby.

And of course we understand unsettled moments will happen, so we pride ourselves on allowing time and patience to get everyone in the mood.

SUNTAN LOTION

It’s important to look after ourselves so make sure you apply sun tan lotion for any session that will take place outdoors.

All we ask is for lotion to be applied at least an hour before your time. This will stop skin looking sweaty and sticky.

REFRESHMENTS

At our studio, for any session (Taster & above) drinks are offered.

For little ones don’t forget any drinks and snacks – just be mindful of anything that will stain any of our props and your clothes.

For outdoor sessions, please make sure you have plenty of water to hand.

And of course it goes without saying that any break that is needed in your session is respected.

VALUABLES

We ask pockets to be emptied to avoid any unsightly lumps and bumps.

So please make sure all valuables are safe.

For outdoor sessions it might be best to leave them at home or in the car.

BLUEBELLs

At this beautiful but delicate time of year, it’s so important that we respect nature, so on any of our bluebell sessions we have a few rules we ask our clients to follow..

Please walk along designated paths or areas. We’ll guide you to where the best places are to have your photo taken.

We never pick our bluebells, however if some are broken on the floor it’s OK to hold them for some photo opportunities.

Just like our main sessions, we recommend avoiding patterns, vibrant and dark colours. So aim for white, nude, pastel, light denim, white, light blues and pinks and yellows.

MATERNITY

TIMING

No matter the size of your bump, we recommend your session taking place between 32-36 weeks of your pregnancy, because your beautiful belly is at its best size to show up in photos, but leaving enough time before you are winding down for your little one’s arrival.

POSES

With our maternity sessions, there is a bit more posing that goes on, to ensure we are enhancing, and showing off you and your bump in the best way. But like with all our sessions, we love to give clients both posed and natural photos so we work with you to understand any concerns you have.

STYLE

No matter your style, we have years of experience understanding how to help you and your bump shine. The most important thing is you feel comfortable, and while we currently don’t have a client wardrobe to offer, we are here to offer advise and guidance on how to make you feel your best during your photoshoot.

Like all our photoshoots we recommend a muted, subtle pallet. Try to avoid anything baggy as this will hide your bump. Floaty is fine depending on the shape and tight is of course good to show things off.

UNDERWEAR

Depending on the style you are going for, it’s really important to think about your under garments. does your bra strap show? Can you see your underwear through your outfit? And if your outfit has it on show, are you happy with it?

SKIN MARKS

It’s equally important to make sure there are no marks on your bump or skin from any clothing that you may have been wearing earlier that day. So we recommend wearing loose clothing to compliment your session outfit.

PROPS

Our sessions are simplistic, however we know how important some cherished scans and gifts can be. We are always here to talk about anything you want to include.

CAKE SMASHES & PAINT SPLASHES

We love these messy and fun sessions and as always, to make the most we’ve listed some ideas and thoughts.

OUTFITS

Once you’ve seen your set design, it’s a great chance to plan your little one’s outfit to compliment. As alway we recommend an outfit that is non-patterned and due to the cake and set, one colour. It’s always worth noting that with your little one moving around, outdoors with messages on may not always be readable.

CAKE

If your little one is having a cake smash to celebrate their first birthday, we know this may be taking place while they are still being weaned and exploring foods. to make sure it’s not such a shock to them, it’s a great idea to introduce cake a week or so before their session to help ease them for what’s to come.

GROWNUPS

It’s messy work having all this fun, and it is also a lot of firsts and news for our little ones. So it’s understandable they may want a cuddle during their photoshoot. We therefore advise you coming in cloths you don’t mind getting a bit messy.
